2000 Union Town Plan In 1998, the City of Union requested that the Boone County Planning Commission conduct a land use and zoning study for the new U.S. 42 corridor. The 1,850 acre area is located in both the City of Union and in unincorporated Boone County. The Union Town Plan was prepared because the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet decided to relocate a 2.87 mile section of U.S. 42. Because of this major road improvement, there was a concerted effort by the City of Union & the Boone County Fiscal Court to plan ahead of development in an area already experiencing rapid growth. The goal of the Union Town Plan is to create a sense of place for a small community located in the center of Boone County.
